Summer 2004
"Rejoice always; pray without ceasing;
in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
1 Thessalonians 5.16-18
Dear friends,
Writing these updates is a good reminder for us to give thanks in everything, and to rejoice always. Missionary life is not always easy, and has its share of 'ups' and 'downs', but we know that all things are working to our good and to God's glory.

The church building. Thanks to
several intensive work weeks over the summer, our church has benefited
greatly; we added a kitchen, a Sunday school room, and a balcony for increased
seating capacity. Morning readings in Nehemiah inspired all who were present.
We thank God for safety and efficiency.

Rebecca's weight. Pregancy-related,
of course! Recent sonograms show that mother and baby are doing fine.
We pray that God prepare us for the October arrival.

Affordable and convenient housing in
Toulouse. A rapidly growing city with a large industry and student
population, Toulouse is currently notorious for its housing options. We
trust God to supply all our needs according to his riches in glory.

Internet opportunities for the gospel.
As France becomes more and more 'connected', I hope to make the most
of my computer background in establishing and maintaining numerous web
sites for churches. May the word of the Lord be thus published throughout
all the region.

My back. Fragile, my back sometimes
goes crooked, keeping me in bed or in a weakened condition. It has been
particularly problematic these days.

The next generation of pastors and
church leaders. Or, in Jesus's words, "The harvest is plentiful,
but the workers are few." For this reason, we are starting
a bible school/training program this fall to provide southwestern France
with access to Biblical training. We depend on God for wisdom and strength
in coordinating this sizeable project.

Overall enthusiasm and readiness for
the upcoming year. We praise God for a beneficial and productive summer:
visit from good friends, uplifting family camps, overall progress and
joy in the faith.

New believers. We rejoice to see God changing lives. Even while we were hammering and painting and building walls, God brought us numerous persons anxious about their salvation. We pray that those who believe, like newborn babies, will long for the pure milk of the word and grow in respect to salvation. |
With God as our Father, we realize that even the 'downs' are wise and loving gifts. Thus, Paul can say to the Corinthians, "For all things are for your sakes, so that the grace which is spreading to more and more people may cause the giving of thanks to abound to the glory of God."
To stimulate thanksgiving and praise, we remain your servants for Jesus Christ,
Sam and Rebecca
